
--According to a Forbes.com report in April of 2007, though the McAllen metro area (which includes Edinburg and Mission) ranked as the fifth highest in job growth in the United States over the past five years, it ranked third last in educational attainment, which left the McAllen metro area in the bottom 10 percent of areas to locate a business in, ranking as #186 out of a list of 200.
--Understanding this need for a more qualified workforce, Hidalgo County Judge J. D. Salinas organized the "2007 Workforce Summit" to gather local leaders together and come up with a plan of action to address, and hopefully solve, this dilemma.
--This edition brings highlights from the summit to viewers, and hopefully will incite a better understanding of the problem so that equivalent solutions can be effected to address the situation of an undereducated workforce in the Rio Grande Valley.
